A New Chapter for UK–Moldova Cooperation

The group is photographed in front of the flags of the United Kingdom and the Republic of Moldova during the first travelling consular outreach service hosted at the newly inaugurated Honorary Consulate on 12 June 2026. The event formed part of the Embassy of the Republic of Moldova in London's "The Embassy Comes Closer to Citizens" programme, bringing essential consular services closer to members of the Moldovan diaspora living across the North of England.

Bringing Moldova Closer to Its Citizens and Closer to Business

Strong Institutions Build Strong Economies

Successful international partnerships depend on trust.

Trust depends on strong institutions.

Strong institutions demonstrate their value through practical action.

On 12 June 2026, the Republic of Moldova took another important step in strengthening its relationship with its citizens in the United Kingdom when, for the first time, the Embassy of the Republic of Moldova in London delivered its travelling consular services from the premises of the Honorary Consulate of the Republic of Moldova in Manchester.

Although I have organised consular outreach services in Manchester for several years in close collaboration with the Embassy, this was the first occasion on which the services were hosted from the office of the newly inaugurated Honorary Consulate.

Only a few weeks after its official opening on 26 May 2026, the Honorary Consulate was already fulfilling its purpose.

The opening of the Honorary Consulate was never intended to be symbolic alone.

Its purpose is to bring the Republic of Moldova closer to its citizens, while bringing our citizens closer to the Republic of Moldova.

Accessibility Creates Confidence

The outreach formed part of the Embassy’s programme, “The Embassy Comes Closer to Citizens”, an initiative designed to make consular services more accessible to Moldovan nationals living across the United Kingdom.

Throughout the day, members of the Moldovan community received a wide range of services, including:

• Notarial services

• Civil status documentation

• Consular consultations

• Guidance on administrative matters

By delivering these services closer to where people live and work, the Embassy continues to remove unnecessary barriers while improving access to public services.

For many citizens living in the North West of England, this represents a significant practical benefit.

Why This Matters Beyond Consular Services

At first glance, travelling consular services may appear to be purely administrative.

However, their significance extends much further.

Accessible public services demonstrate institutional maturity.

Efficient institutions inspire confidence.

Confidence encourages investment.

Investment supports economic growth.

Businesses considering international expansion pay close attention to how countries engage with their citizens and how effectively their public institutions operate.

A country that actively supports its diaspora also strengthens its reputation as a reliable international partner.

Consequently, initiatives such as these contribute not only to community wellbeing but also to the wider perception of Moldova as a modern, responsive and internationally engaged country.

Supporting the North West of England

The North West is home to one of the largest Moldovan communities in the United Kingdom.

Many Moldovan professionals, entrepreneurs and skilled workers contribute significantly to the regional economy across sectors including healthcare, logistics, engineering, construction, education, manufacturing and professional services.

Making consular services more accessible supports these individuals by reducing travel time, simplifying administrative processes and strengthening their connection with their home country.

Strong diaspora communities contribute to stronger local economies.

They also create valuable bridges between international markets.

A Partnership That Delivers

This successful outreach would not have been possible without the close collaboration between the Embassy of the Republic of Moldova in London and the Honorary Consulate in Manchester.

I would like to express my sincere gratitude to His Excellency Ruslan Bolbocean, Ambassador of the Republic of Moldova to the United Kingdom, together with the Embassy’s dedicated consular team headed by the Consul Mrs. Cristina Oleinic, for their professionalism, commitment and continued support.

Their willingness to bring essential services closer to our community demonstrates a genuine commitment to serving Moldovan citizens wherever they live.

It was a privilege to support the organisation and delivery of this important initiative.

Why Businesses Should Take Notice

International investors increasingly assess more than economic indicators.

They also consider governance, institutional effectiveness and public engagement.

The ability of a country to support its citizens abroad reflects positively on its institutions and strengthens confidence among international partners.

For businesses exploring opportunities in Moldova, these developments demonstrate a country that values service, responsiveness and long-term relationships.

These qualities are equally important when developing bilateral trade, attracting investment and strengthening commercial cooperation.

As Honorary Consul, one of my priorities is to support these wider objectives by building stronger connections between businesses, institutions, universities, local authorities and the Moldovan diaspora.

Looking Ahead

This outreach service represents only the beginning.

Working closely with the Embassy of the Republic of Moldova in London, the Honorary Consulate will continue supporting regular travelling consular services while developing new initiatives that strengthen links with the diaspora, local authorities, academia and the wider business community across the North West of England.

Each initiative contributes towards a larger objective.

Building lasting partnerships between the Republic of Moldova and the United Kingdom.

Creating opportunities for trade, investment and innovation.

Supporting our citizens with professionalism and dignity.

Bringing Moldova closer to its people.

And bringing people closer to Moldova.

Economic diplomacy begins with people. Strong communities build strong institutions. Strong institutions build strong economies.
